This book is a result of what I have learned from my formal education in management, my practical management experiences, and my management teaching experiences.
Having spent over 20 years in various management positions before joining the academic world, I have gained much practical experience about what works in management and what does not.
Having taught management to the younger generation for the past 15 years, I have become more aware of the differences between prior and current generations.
I have learned that the core principles of management, as applied for centuries, are still valid. Effective managers must still Plan, Organize, and provide Leadership, and then Control to ensure that plans and goals are met.
What has changed is the Environment in which these principles are applied.
Workers and the Nature of Work have changed. The general business environment has changed. Societal Norms and Values have changed. The Tools available for work have changed. The Competitive Environment has changed.
For example, Workers are more educated and seek more than a paycheck from work. More work is knowledge work and requires more use of technology. The General Environment in which businesses operate is more global and competitive.
This book applies the fundamental Principles of Management to teach future managers how to be effective in the 21st Century.
