Overview of
College Algebra: Functions and Applications

This textbook covers the major topics of college algebra with an emphasis on functions. The concepts of domain and range and graph properties are discussed for each type of function (linear, power, exponential, logarithmic, quadratic) and provide a way to visualize solutions to related equations. Application problems provide motivation for the topics and videos allow students to both hear and see a problem worked out step-by-step. In addition to end-of chapter quizzes and homework assignments, each chapter contains various “Knowledge Checks” that allow students to evaluate their understanding of big ideas and key concepts.
About the Author
Jeanette Mokry
Dr. Jeanette Mokry has always loved learning and earned secondary education licensure along with a B.S. in mathematics from Elon University. She then earned an M.S. and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Mokry continues to explore ways to improve the classroom experience for her students. Her years of coordinating college algebra and research on the student experience with this course motivated the design of this textbook.
