Let’s start walking together in the Cloud! Working in the Cloud is an area of technology that is easily misunderstood. Business and technical users need to know how the cloud works, and software developers need to know what is expected when they are working to create and deploy applications to the cloud. The cloud changes how applications are deployed and how organizations need to manage their services. Cloud Application Development: Navigating the Cloud to Deploy Applications takes the student from the basics of cloud services to understanding application deployment through microservices and DevOps all the way toward the basics needed to manage the cloud. It is a tool for anyone wanting to develop their cloud understanding before adopting a cloud service provider.
The text is geared specifically to be able to navigate the cloud environment and is a foundational cloud work to provide a solid understanding of the jargon, the technology, and how it works. The book is not about the major cloud service providers such as Google, AWS, Azure, and so on. The content of this book will help bridge the gap across multiple service providers and cloud implementations. It is for this reason that each chapter of the book has activities that can be applied to learn more about the content of each chapter. Instructors using the book are highly encouraged to develop their own active learning activities. This can be especially fruitful if you are also teaching toward a specific service provider and activities from those cloud services. Overall, instructors can bring your own cloud focus to reinforce the content presented.
