Overview of
The Cliff Notes of Writing an IEP

Discovery

The Cliff Notes of Writing an IEP was designed as a walk-through of an IEP.  From the beginning of getting to know your student to conducting the IEP meeting, this text will take you step by step in providing you content full of ideas, resources, practical applications, and student scenarios for each component.  This text was written for teacher candidates pursuing a special education degree as well as the hope of using this as a reference for beginning teachers in their first year as a special education teacher.

About the Author -

Heather J. Musil is an instructor at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS, in the special education cohort of the teacher education department.  Heather is very passionate about students who need special education services.  Before teaching at FHSU, she was a special education teacher for 18 years in her local public school.  After teaching at the university level the past few years, Heather realized there was no useful or friendly textbook that explicitly states the essential information needed in writing an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).  Because Heather is instructing students at the university level to be prepared for a special education teaching position, learning to write an IEP and implementing the IEP accordingly are vital components to the success in the first year.
