This e-book book covers important themes, ideas, and people relevant to the history of psychology. This history includes the distant and recent past, starting with ancient systems of philosophy and religion, and ends with cognitive psychology and the research replication dilemma current faced by research psychologists. The intent of this work is to serve as a survey of history to students of psychology and other curious minds. I wrote this book to aid my students at Virginia Commonwealth University, students that I love dearly whether they believe that or not.
This e-book includes activities and links to discussions, polls, and videos to engage the reader as they think about the content and put relevant ideas and people in context. These activities are intended to enhance one’s understanding of the material and probe personal ideas and beliefs as they relate to the book’s contents. I have attempted to integrate issues of diversity and inclusion where appropriate and occasionally I present a less than glamorous viewpoint of some of psychology’s historical figures. As I grow as a teacher, this will be updated and revised as I find more ways to connect the good and the bad of psychology’s past.
