Overview of
La Honda: The Story of Jill and Jack - A Sociological Analysis

Discovery

"La Honda: The Story of Jill and Jack,” is a futuristic, paranormal, love story that takes place in a very dark time, following World War III and Climate Change. The earth is 97% water and all, but the top 10 richest families in the world live in “Compounds.” Most people of the planet earth have died. No one is allowed to speak in the compounds, and past norms such as honesty, kindness, dignity, and tolerance are forbidden. Jill and Jack meet and fall in love in one of these compounds. As their love grows, they become more in touch with positive human values. They secretly communicate with each other during mutually shared dreams, while sleeping in their tubes in the compound.

La Honda was a beautiful town in the woods of California, near Big Sur. Many creative writers, musicians, and artists resided there in the 1960s. They sought to better understand humankind and themselves during this period. In the story, the town has long since burnt down, but the Magical Island of La Honda now exists, where norms are abundant and the people of La Honda work with dolphin and other advanced sea creatures to encourage the positive energy of values. The drastic physical changes in the world have acted as a catalyst for evolution. Human beings with values are “adopted,” by dolphin who play with them and help them survive. La Honda residents join Jill and Jack during their dreams, infiltrate the compound, plan their escape, and bring them to the Magical Island of La Honda.

I fear that the reality of this series is, unfortunately, that we as a society are rapidly advancing to a close version of the plot of the manuscript. I hope that this story will advance the critical truth, that we must never lose our positive human norms and values. I firmly believe that the positive energy created by these values must fight the negative alternatives. Again, it is tragic that the timing of this story is now.

As a sociology and criminology professor, I have worked with youth in trouble with the law in many cities across the United States and Canada. I am excited about advancing sociological issues through fiction and my hope is to reach out to a larger base in this manner. I am very concerned about what I believe to be a loss of positive norms and values in contemporary US society and many other nations across the world in recent years. Thank you in advance, for reading, “La Honda: The Story of Jill and Jack.”
