Overview of
Writing Across the Curriculum of Kinesiology: Bridging Coursework to Professional Practice

Discovery

The inaugural textbook, Writing Across the Curriculum of Kinesiology: Bridging Coursework to Professional Practice, is designed as an introduction to teach technical writing skills in kinesiology. The concept for this text was conceived to support the California State University initiative that each campus program will have an upper division writing course. Well, after thorough investigation and contacting several textbook companies no one had a text to meet the needs of this course. This text is written to prepare undergraduate students for upper division writing in their specific disciplines. Also, it eliminates the myth that writing is not an important function within the kinesiology discipline. This text serves as a basic guide for students to become proficient writers in Kinesiology that leads to professional practice.

It should be acknowledged that the text is not designed to teach curriculum content or subject matter content for the different disciplines. Also, due to the nature of the text and the timeframe of the semester system, the text cannot discuss all potential writing assignments. However, it does provide building blocks for students to apply writing techniques in their specific discipline courses and into professional practice.

Organization of the Text

The text consists of an introduction chapter and 10 chapters that are divided into a four-part layout. The chapters have a variety of elements, such as checklists, tables, figures, chapter quiz, recommended websites, suggested readings, and sample documents.
