Introduction to Computing Information Systems is an introductory text that uses Microsoft Office to teach students how to format documents, create spreadsheets, design presentations, and to implement databases. Students learn to create well-formatted resumes and to apply research styles to academic publications. Students use the desktop and online versions of Office along with OneDrive for collaboration and storage. The spreadsheet assignments include using tables, conditional formatting, statistical and financial functions, and pivot tables. Students use spreadsheets for data analysis, budgets, and for creating illustrative charts. The presentations include using features such as animation, voice recording, screen captures, and screen recording. It uses Microsoft Access to introduce concepts of database design, database queries, and database reporting. The text also addresses topics such as cybersecurity, copyright, Creative Commons, cybercurrency, onion routing, the dark web and deep web, wifi, LANs, and computer networking.
