It has been argued that “Americans have a hard time understanding Latin America,” (Wiarda, 2003). Many North Americans are not aware of the significant environmental, cultural and economic diversity within Latin America and of the region’s changing political and economic relations within a globalized world. The present textbook seeks to contribute to the understanding of Latin America by introducing the study of the region from a geographic perspective. Undergraduate university students are the main intended audience.
