Dr. Isis Silva began her teaching career at the elementary school level, grades 1 through 5, in both private and public schools in Miami-Dade County, Florida, also serving as grade level chair and math coach. As a nationally board certified teacher, she was driven to utilize creative, evidence-based teaching strategies, including project-based learning (PBL) and real-world application, to empower her students for academic success. After almost a decade as a K-12 educator, her desire to impact the educational practices of future teachers led her, in 2008, to transition to higher education. Dr. Silva now serves as an Associate Professor of Education at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she trains preprofessional teachers to use innovative teaching strategies. She also teaches master’s level reading methods courses for Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio. She delivers instruction in the blended and fully online formats. Dr. Silva holds a Masters in Reading Education and Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Florida International University, and Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) from Nova Southeastern University. She has also earned the ACUE (Association of College and University Educators) certification in Effective College Instruction. Through the years, she was awarded several distinctions, including Rookie Teacher of the Year, Math Teacher of the Year, Endowed Teaching Chair, Innovation Grant, and Research Awards. Her passion for transforming the lives of diverse learners and instilling a love of teaching continue to be her driving force.
