She currently is a Senior Professor of Education and Psychology at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she has been training teachers for the past 20 years in the blended and fully online modalities. Prior to teaching in higher education, she was a public school teacher in Washington, DC. It is during her tenure at School Without Walls High School, a college preparatory and Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, that she experienced one of the most defining moments of her career, one that would powerfully mold her educational philosophy and instructional style. Exposed to the school’s incorporation of innovative teaching methods, such as experiential learning in the nation’s capital and world at large, she crafted her personal approach to teaching to include context-based and active learning, strategies that she still uses today. Dr. Charlotteaux credits the school, currently ranked as the best magnet high school in the District of Columbia and one of the top in the country, for the type of educator that she became. Over the years, Dr. Charlotteaux has been recognized with various teaching awards, including the ICTL (Innovative Conference on Teaching & Learning) Excellence in Teaching, Learning, & Technology, Professor of the Year, Endowed Teaching Chair, and Instructional Technology Council (ITC) Outstanding e-Learning Faculty awards. She has also been the recipient of several student life, innovation grant, and research awards. After years of practice, teaching continues to ignite the flame of passion in her heart.
